Something about a warrior’s way

Something about a warrior’s way

“Moses answered the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Exodus 14:13-14

You need only to be still. What does it mean to be still? In our busy culture, being still is a difficult practice. There’s always a person to visit, a job to do, lunches to be made, a meal to be cooked, a party to plan, and so on and on.

Life can begin to feel like a treadmill, and you are the mouse going round and round, unable to jump off.

We may feel we are constantly fighting to keep our head above water. Or we may be fighting something out of the ordinary like an intrusive illness or the loss of a loved one.

Sometimes it feels as if the only thing we can do to keep going is just to keep on going. The Lord says though, that we should be still. We should cease from our activity, our movement, and our fighting.

Being still in the Lord is not to stop doing. It is being still within ourselves; our soul and heart.

The only way we can accomplish this is by regularly resting in the presence of our Lord Jesus. We do this by choosing to spend time with Him, meditating on His Word, talking to Him and recalling His faithfulness.

In doing this, we learn to trust Him and THIS is the only thing we need to do. Jesus says that we should cast our cares on Him, for His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

When we practice this, we become more conscious of God’s awesome fighting for us. Those terrors we come up against, He is there. He goes before us and He fights. We need only to be still.
